Shabbat Shalom! My name is Skylar Lowry, and I have been preparing for my becoming a Bat Mitzvah! My original date was scheduled for last June, but due to Covid-19 it was postponed to this year. Just because my date was moved, it still hasn’t stopped me from doing my mitzvah project! I chose a close family friends foundation called Amy’s Kisses. The mission of Amy’s Kisses is to provide opportunities in the form of domestic violence educational resources as well as educational scholarships to low-income students throughout the U.S. Not only does this foundation mean a lot to me, but it helps remember Amy Perez, and her two beautiful children Molly and Gregory that tragically lost their lives. For my mitzvah project, I made and sold handmade bracelets where the proceeds went to the Amy’s Kisses foundation. Aside from making these bracelets, I also volunteered my time to assist with different events to help bring awareness and fundraising for Amy’s Kisses. I plan to continue volunteering my time to help Amy’s Kisses as I love working with this foundation and it will always be with me forever.
There were so many people who made this day possible and without them I don’t think this would have happened. First, I would like to thank both Rabbi Leib and Rabbi Tornberg for helping me prepare for my service and guidance over the past years. Secondly, I would like to thank Cantor Zarkh and Mrs. Band for being patient with me throughout learning my Torah portion, Haftorah, and all my prayers on top of those. Lastly, I would like to give a special thanks to my parents! Without them this day would have never been possible, and to my brother Avery. I don’t know what I would have done without you by my side as I become a Bat Mitzvah! Thank you again to everyone for making this day possible. Once again Shabbat Shalom! ________________________________________
