Adult Education - Crisis in Israel Discussion 2/28
Join Rabbi Leib on February 28 at 12:00 p.m. as he engages in conversation via Zoom with our friend Julian Resnick, who is both a tour guide and educator, about the current crisis in Israel.
Julian served as the guide for the Old York Road Temple-Beth Am congregational tour to Israel in 2016. He was born in Cape Town, South Africa and moved to Israel in 1976. He became a registered tour guide in 1987 and has worked as a freelance guide for central education institutions in Israel as well as with families, synagogue groups, staff training groups, business leaders and interfaith groups. He also guides journeys outside of Israel, wherever there is a Jewish story to tell, including Poland, Spain, Greece, Morocco, and South Africa. He has three children and seven grandchildren. Julian is a member of Kibbutz Tzorah, where he lives with his extended family.
This promises to be an engaging, impactful, and timely discussion, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions. A light lunch will be provided for those who attend in person. Zoom attendance will be made available for those who cannot attend in person.

Please accept, once again, my profound thanks to those of you who were so moved and inspired by our inaugural Eight Nights of Giving program, that it motivated you to make a special Chanukah contribution to Beth Am.
Whether you gave in recognition of one or more or all of the 8 nights, please know that your kindness and thoughtfulness are much appreciated!
Thank you for helping to dispel the darkness and for distributing the light in such a meaningful way!
In friendship, Robert

Camp Scholarships
Summer is closer than you think! It’s the time of year when we begin the process of distributing scholarship funds from the Julia Nicole Marder Camp Fund to our families who need help sending their kids (Grades K-12) to Jewish day/overnight camps.
If you would like funding assistance for summer of 2024, please fill out this online form by December 31. We will have scholarship decisions by mid-February.
Thank you for making camp happen for you child—it’s one of the highest impact Jewish learning experiences kids can have.
During the month of January, we will be collecting new and gently used shoes for distribution to homeless people in Philadelphia. Please make sure the shoes are in good condition and appropriate for outside, cold weather use. Please place each pair in a bag labeled with size and gender. A donation box is located at the rear entrance.

On behalf of the professional staff and lay leadership of Beth Am, please accept my very grateful thanks for your wholehearted support of our Eight Nights of Giving which, from all accounts, surpassed our expectations.
We especially appreciate Rachel Frankel for having suggested this novel fundraiser which has caught the attention of Beth Amniks, both near and far, including a disproportionately large number of former congregants!
As you light the last 8th candle tonight - and make a final contribution if you haven’t yet - know that your kindness will certainly help in so many ways.
And please accept our gratitude for bringing so much desperately needed light into corners that are too dark and too deep this year.
We can all make a difference and you most certainly have; thank you very much!
Because of the generosity of so many of our beloved congregants, we were able to honor our commitment to providing Thanksgiving meals to more than 100 families.
We are beyond grateful, and it shows that Old York Road Temple-Beth Am is truly dedicated to Tzedakah.

Dear Friends, While I would never dare minimize the supreme significance of Chag HaUrim, our winter Festival of Lights and how it’s enduring impact of Jewish heroism, resistance, honor and pride is especially felt now - this year - I’m also keenly aware of how Chanukah’s proximity to Christmas has unfortunately resulted in an atmosphere of conspicuous consumption: the instant gratification that our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren feel they are entitled to by receiving gifts on each and every one of the eight nights of Chanukah.
So, instead, tell them that this year, this Chanukah, in their honor, you’re donating $18 on one night or, preferably, all eight nights to Beth Am!
Don’t shy away from letting them know that your gift in their name is as - if not even more - critically needed now than ever before. And that’s no exaggeration!
Thank you, in advance, for participating in our “Eight Nights of Giving!”
May you and all those you love enjoy a bright and beautiful Chanukah!

It is with much sadness and regret that we inform you that this year’s 73rd Annual Abington Township Interfaith Thanksgiving Service has been cancelled.
Following a lengthy, recent Zoom meeting that we had with our Ministerium colleagues, it became clear that it would not be feasible to host our annual celebration at Beth Am. Please respect our decision for not sharing, publicly, the reasons for having concluded that it would be best if we, as a congregation, absented ourselves. We take some solace and comfort in knowing that, because of our decision, our Ministerium colleagues have decided not to proceed with a service of their own.
Instead, we invite you, our fellow Beth Amniks, to join us in a festive, celebratory program devoted to peace, thanks and hope on Tuesday, November 21st at 6:00pm. The entire program will take place in the Strick Auditorium. We’ll begin with a hoagie meal and accompanying trimmings and then participate in an interactive program including music, poetry and readings. Please respond to the attached flyer ASAP.
We would appreciate it if you would bring non-perishable canned goods to be donated to the Jenkintown Food Cupboard. Both their Board President and Executive Director will be present. We are proud to be the Cupboard's largest donor.
We wish to assure you, our fellow Beth Amniks, that we remain steadfastly committed to the mission of our Old York Road Ministerium: to actively engage in clergy dialogue and to promote and facilitate interfaith cooperation and programs where and when possible. We thank you all for supporting us in this vitally important work that helps nourish and enrich us.
In friendship, Rabbi Robert Leib Cantor Elena Zarkh

Overnight, our "Stand with Israel" billboard sign was defaced. During an overnight drive-by Abington Police noticed and removed the damaged sign immediately. I was notified at that time by the officers on the scene and the building remained secure. Abington Police have a full report and have viewed our video surveillance footage. They will continue to investigate.
We continue to monitor our cameras, keep all doors locked, and ask our congregants and parents to use the Paxton smart key and pin codes for building access. Abington police will continue to patrol our facility and as a community do not forget our motto "SEE SOMETHING... SAY SOMETHING!"
