BAR MITZVAH - SHILOH LINCOW
Mitzvah Project
For my mitzvah project, I collected art supplies and donated them to a school in need. During Covid, drawing was a way for me to stay happy and helped me keep a positive attitude and mindset. I wanted to donate art supplies to kids in schools who did not have access them so that they could use art as a way to make them happy, too.
For the whole month of November, I collected gently used or new art supplies from students and families at Pine Road Elementary, Murray Avenue Middle School, the School of Early Learning right here at Beth Am, and the Tyler School of Art at Temple University.
People were so generous that I collected 121 pounds. I collected crayons, markers, colored pencils, and school supplies. I donated the supplies to Morrison Elementary, a school in the Olney section of Philadelphia. I donated them to this school because they needed the help and support with supplies. When the students came to school, they relied on the school for their meals, so my family and I also donated boxes of snacks for the kids to enjoy throughout the day. These students were 1st graders. I felt proud being an active participant and leading this mitzvah project to help less fortunate students.
Thank You
I would like to thank my parents for encouraging me to practice my Hebrew, making sure that I am on time for my Hebrew lessons, and helping me get prepared for becoming a Bar Mitzvah. I would also like to thank my brothers Hunter and Sawyer for listening to me practice my Hebrew, even though they did not want to listen, and for supporting me on my big day. Also, I would like to thank Cindy Band for tutoring me with my prayer goals and teaching me to read in Hebrew. I would like to thank the clergy, especially Cantor Zarkh for teaching me how to chant my Torah and Haftarah portions. I would also like to thank Rabbi Leib for teaching me the story behind the words that I am chanting and for mentoring me with my D’var Torah. It has been special to work with him because he taught both my parents and helped them become Bar and Bat Mitzvah as well in the same sanctuary! Finally, I would like to thank my piano teacher, Olga Learner for teaching me to read music and for helping me to play my songs to the best of my ability.
