As we know from the news and social media, the recent events in Israel have led to an uptick in anti-Semitic occurrences here in the United States. At Beth Am, we take the safety and security of our members, families, and children seriously. The building always remains locked. Currently we are only using the parking lot entrance for admittance unless otherwise indicated for a life cycle event. We have an ongoing relationship with the Abington Police Department, and they continue to patrol the spur road and parking lot daily.
Additionally, each morning I receive an email from Secure Community Network, the official homeland security and safety initiative of the organized Jewish community in North America. It provides timely, credible threat and incident information and serves as the community’s formal liaison with federal law enforcement. This network coordinates closely with state and local law enforcement partners. This agency would facilitate a dialogue between us and the Abington Police if a known threat were in our area.
As we shift into the phased reopening of our facility, we will move towards having the Abington Auxiliary police posted at Shabbat along with continued surveillance of our building and grounds. Lastly, I look forward to circling back with our security committee as we look forward to a post pandemic 5782.
During these hours, we will be answering phone calls and checking emails while working. We will NOT be open to the public or to congregants at this time.
