For my mitzvah project, I participated in several watershed cleanups through an organization called Friends of Poquessing Watershed. I also organized a few cleanups on my own, inviting friends to local spots along the Delaware River to pick up trash. These cleanups are small but mighty. Just a small group of people, working for only a few hours, but it is so rewarding when you see the piles of full trash bags at the end. It is a reminder of what doing mitzvot is all about ~ doing little things every day.
I would like to thank the clergy for helping me with all the preparation for my Bar Mitzvah service. Rabbi Leib and Rabbi Tornberg, thank you for your help with my D’var Torah. Cantor Zarkh, thank you so much for meeting with me weekly these past two years, helping me learn all the blessings as well as my Torah and Haftarah portions. I would like to thank all my teachers throughout Hebrew school, but in particular, Mrs. Cohen. Mrs. Cohen taught me all my prayers, requiring that her students practice outside of class and call her every week to show her our mastery of the prayers. I would also like to thank my family and friends for their support through the years. Thank you, Mom and Dad, for always being there for me and helping me navigate all the decisions to help us reach today.
There will be no Pirkei Avot this week. Please enjoy this time with your loved ones.
We will see you next week at our regular time - 11:00 a.m. _________________________________________________
As some of you may be aware, 2022 marks our synagogue’s 75th anniversary! Thanks to information gleaned from the first panel in the History Hallway, we were founded in April 1947.
We are delighted to inform you that our outgoing President, Mark Braverman, is the Chair of a Jubilee Steering Committee responsible for coordinating our celebratory activities. To this end, we would like to extend an invitation to all our congregants (yes, adults and kids alike!) to put on their artistic hat and design a logo befitting this auspicious milestone! Needless to say, the sky’s the limit; we only request that you incorporate “75” into your design.
Please submit your entry to Bonnie Marks, bmarks@oyrtbetham.orgby June 20 at the very latest. Good luck! ________________________________________________________________________
