SAVE THE DATE! Friday, June 3, 6:00 PM Shabbat Under the Stars/Pride Shabbat/Czech Scroll Unveiling
We will be outside in the parking lot for this special Shabbat. We will supply the chairs; you can bring the cheer! Bring a bottle and toast our 75th anniversary and kick off the beginning of summer. Festivities begin at 6:00 p.m. in the lobby with a festive Pre-neg and an unveiling of our new Czech Scroll mural.
80 years ago, in 1942, the Jews of Louny, Tábor and Svêtlá nad Sázavou, Czechoslovakia, were murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust. Three of the Czech Torah scrolls that originated in those towns, are currently held in the holy arks of Old York Road Temple-Beth Am in Abington, Pennsylvania. Now coinciding with our 75th anniversary, these three Torahs will be honored.
We have commissioned prominent artist Murrie Gayman to create a mural depicting the three towns, their Jewish citizens, and the Torahs they prayed with. The “Little Torah from Svêtlá” encased in plexiglass is flanked by representations of the Louny and Tábor Torahs, thus creating a lasting memorial dedicated to the Brill Family in memory the ten who perished in the Shoah.
Service begins at 7:00 p.m. with a special Oneg to follow. _________________________________________________
